Why plated over sterling rather than steel?
A sterling core is gentler on sensitive ears and holds plating well. It is a better base than the brass used in cheap hoops.
Will the gold wear off?
Plating on earrings lasts longer than on rings because there is far less friction. Keep hairspray and perfume off them and they hold.
Are two sizes useful or gimmicky?
Useful if you have more than one piercing. If you only have one hole per ear, you are effectively buying a spare pair.
